The British government only enlisted the assistance of Jim Corbett in 1930 to create the park. The first national park in Asia was established as a reserve called Hailey national park. In honour of Jim Corbett’s contributions to the creation of this park, the reserve was later renamed Jim Corbett National Park.

It was chosen to be the headquarters for Project Tiger, an organization to save endangered Bengal tigers. Since then, the Bengal tiger population has increased. Corbett National Park is among the 13 protected areas included in the Terai Arc Landscape Program of the World Wide Fund for Nature. Its headquarters is located in Nainital district.

Geography of Jim Corbett

The region’s altitude ranges from 360 to 1,040 metres. There are many ravines, small streams, and small plateaus that have different slopes and aspects. The Patli Dun Valley, formed by the Ramganga River, is part of the park. It preserves portions of the subtropical and moist broadleaf pine ecoregions of the Upper Gangetic Plain. It is humid and has an alpine and subtropical climate.

The current reserve covers 1,318.54 km, with 520 km of core area and 797.72 kilometres of buffer. The Jim Corbett National Park is located in the core of the reserve. The buffer area includes the reserve forests (496.54 km2) and the Sonanadi Nature Reserve (301.81 km2). The reserve is located partly in the valley between the Lesser Himalayas and the Shivaliks to the south. It has a sub-Himalayan structure.

Climate in Jim Corbett:

Jim Corbett National Park is closed from mid-June through mid-September because the rainy season coincides with the mating season. The summer season begins in March and ends in June. Temperatures can reach 40 degrees, with a minimum of 30 degrees. Summer heat is unbearable for residents as well as animals.

Jim Corbett National Park can be visited after the rainy season, which is just before the summer season. From December through February are the best months for Corbett. These months have a pleasant maximum temperature of 20 degrees and a minimum of 5 degrees. It is much easier to spot animals in winter.
